This seldomly seen guide is a sight to behold. Published in 1891 by The Sporting Life Publishing Company of Philadelphia this guide features a history of the game and major and minor league statistics. The main feature of this guide is the many engravings of the stars of the day and future Hall of Famers like Harry Wright, A.G. Spalding, Mike "King" Kelley and John Ward. An important historical section provides an overview of the first and only season of the Player's League. There is also a post-mortem of the League and the machinations that led to its demise. 1890 was the rookie year of Cy Young who went 9-7 for the hapless Cleveland Spiders. There is paper loss on the front and back covers as well as the spine. But the covers are firmly attached and the contents are in excellent condition.
